Ninth World Toolkit

Setting generators for Numenera players and GMs

Quick Navigation

This toolkit holds generators made for the Ninth World: random cyphers, intrusions drawn from the numenera, and names. Numenera uses the standard Cypher System rules, so for the system-wide tools (the task roller with difficulty and Effort, recovery rolls and general intrusion ideas) use the Cypher System Digital Toolkit. To fill in and print a Ninth World character, use the Character Sheets page with the Numenera setting.

Random Cypher Generator

Discover mysterious devices from the prior worlds

These are sample cypher ideas written for this guide, not entries from the official books. "Anoetic" (simple to use) and "occultic" (more complex and dangerous to carry) are the cypher categories from the first edition of Numenera; Numenera Discovery treats them all simply as cyphers. Generated levels run from 1 to 10; for an official cypher, use the level its own entry gives.

Numenera Intrusion Ideas

Complications that come from the strange technology of the prior worlds

⚡

Click "Generate Numenera Intrusion" for a complication rooted in the numenera

How intrusions themselves work (the XP offer, refusing one, the intrusion a player triggers by rolling a 1) is covered in GM Intrusions & XP. For general-purpose intrusion ideas, use the Cypher System Digital Toolkit.

Ninth World Name Generator

Generate names for characters, places, and artifacts

The lists mix names that appear in the setting (such as the Order of Truth and the city of Qi) with original names written in the same style, so you can drop them straight into your Ninth World.
