Travelers of the Ninth World

40 ready-to-play Numenera characters: 15 who travel alone and 7 groups of two to six.

Using These Characters

Every character on this page is an original, built with the steps in Numenera Characters and the main guide's Character Creation, Stat Pools & Effort and Character Advancement. None of them comes from the Numenera books. Hand one to a player for a one-shot, use them as allies, rivals or the people of a village, or read them as worked examples before you build your own.

To use one, pick a character whose sentence grabs you, rename them freely, then adjust to taste: swap abilities for others from the same list, move the 6 free Pool points around, or trade a cypher. Most are tier 1; six are tier 2 or 3, with their advancements listed.

Take them to the table. All 40 characters are in one file for the fillable Character Sheet. Download it, open the sheet, press Import and choose the file; each character then appears in the saved-sheet list with the Numenera setting, Pools, Edge, skills, abilities, cyphers, artifacts, oddities and shins filled in, and (for groups) the rest of the group in the notes.
